Here’s a great review of a very important box set.

I was so pleased to see proper consideration given to the contributions of many of the key Cleveland Orchestra principals, all legends in their own right.

The legacy of the Cleveland Orchestra of that era in music education is almost as vast as in recording in performance. You can’t swing a cat in an American orchestra without hitting someone who studied with one of Szell’s alumni.

Did you know Szell and Gál were classmates in Vienna? Gál called him the most talented musician he ever met, but lazy!
